Church and Slippers of Liliw, Laguna

Imahe
After Nagcarlan, we went in Liliw, Laguna.  Liliw is just five minutes away from Nagcarlan. After eight pesos jeepney ride, me and my buddy got off at one end of Gat Tayaw Street (the street where the shoe/sandals/slippers stores are located). I was amazed by the number of stores in that street and was already ready to start my hunt for the right fit for my feet but my companion wanted to see and say graces at Liliw Church first. Gat Tayaw St., Liliw Laguna              Trailing my companion with a heavy heart, I passed these shoe stores hoping that we still have time to buy later knowing how long my buddy pray. As soon as I saw the façade of St John the Baptist Church, I was immediately elated and my energy are up again. (I’m a sucker of old churches.) Like Church of Nagcarlan, façade of St. John the de Baptist Church of Liliw is also made of red bricks and adobe. On top of the main entrance, there is a white sculpted image of the Baptism

Finding Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery

foreground of Nagcarlan Underground Cemetery After sneaking-in at St. Bartolomew Parish Church of Nagcarlan, Laguna for more than two hours, we decided to check the underground cemetery which is situated two kilometers away from the church. We hire a trike for 20 pesos and eight minutes later we’re in front of its gate.   the gate          I am a sucker of old churches but not of cemeteries, except this one. I have been dying to visit this historical monument for months.       As I dismount from the back of the tricycle driver. (I sit there for I hate stooping. Laguna trikes usually have low ceiling and it’s not comfortable for tall people.), I was immediately mesmerized by the beauty of the façade of the complex. The front fence is composed of red bricks with iron-wrought grills. An arch with iron-grill gate welcome visitors. Red tiles serve as pathway from the gate to the church with greeneries on each side.  my travel buddy kita ang katuwaan

Sneaking-in at Nagcarlan Church

Facade of Nagcarlan Church For almost five months of this year, I was stationed at Calamba, Laguna to further my knowledge about public service.  Towards the end of my schooling, classes schedule were loose, weekends were free and I found time to roam and discover the beauty of the nearby places. So here are some stories of my wandering.   Got a classmate from Nagcarlan, Laguna and she been telling me about the beauty of her town. So one boring Saturday morning while having a cup of coffee with a friend at Starbucks-SM Calamba, I kept hearing the call for passenger to Nagcarlan. That day, we planned to find books for our book reports, roam around the mall for bargains and have a food trip since foods being served in the institute are not always appealing to our palette. “Tara sa Nagcarlan!” I told my friend. Which he immediately agreed. Only armed with the stories of our classmate, we hop in a van, paid Php 80.00 each  without knowing how far it was.  I have this thin
